INTRODUCTION
Module Certification Examination
The Module Certification Examination has been developed to ensure that candidates demonstrate the knowledge, clinical judgement, professionalism, and technical competence required to safely perform procedures within the specified surgical module.
The examination process evaluates the candidate across three core domains:
Assessment is conducted through a combination of written examination, structured oral examination, and practical clinical assessment. Successful completion of all required components will result in certification in the relevant module.

Candidates must satisfy all eligibility criteria prior to entry into the examination process, including completion of the required training programme, demonstrated clinical experience, submission of a validated surgical logbook or portfolio, and compliance with professional and regulatory requirements. The Faculty reserves the right to review submitted documentation and determine eligibility.

EXAM STRUCTURE
Examination Components
The examination is conducted over two days and comprises the following components:
DAY ONE
Knowledge & Clinical Reasoning
Prior to the written and viva examinations, candidates will attend focused revision sessions delivered by faculty members. These sessions are designed to reinforce core principles and clinical decision-making frameworks relevant to the module.
The written examination evaluates the candidate's theoretical knowledge and applied understanding of the module. The format consists of 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Candidates will participate in a structured oral examination using five clinical case scenarios relevant to the module. The viva examination assesses clinical judgement, surgical planning, risk assessment, management of complications, and professional conduct and patient safety considerations.
DAY TWO
Practical Clinical Assessment
The practical assessment evaluates the candidate's technical competence and real-world clinical practice. Two members of the Faculty will conduct the assessment, which may take place at the candidate's clinical practice or place of work, or at a designated assessment centre approved by the Faculty.

The practical assessment will be documented using a Procedure Based Assessment (PBA) form. The procedure assessed must be representative of the candidate's selected module.

Pass Criteria and Award of Certification
The Faculty Examination Board will determine:
Calibration of marking standards will be undertaken by the Faculty to ensure consistency, fairness, and reliability of assessment.
Candidates must achieve a satisfactory performance across all domains in order to pass the examination.
Certification confirms that the candidate has demonstrated the required knowledge, judgement, professionalism, and technical competence to perform procedures within the specified module.
